On August 1, 2002, the Academic Innovations unit at the Office of the Chancellor, Minnesota State Colleges and Universities (MnSCU), deployed eFolio Minnesota, the statewide, multimedia, electronic portfolio infrastructure originally designed to help Minnesota students and residents create a living showcase of their lifelong and lifewide learning. Public agencies and educational institutions soon realized this tool’s potential and have used it to support their missions. All Minnesotans, including students enrolled in Minnesota schools, educators, and others use eFolio Minnesota software, free of charge, to foster success in achieving their educational, career, and instructional goals.
eFolio Minnesota differs from most electronic portfolio projects initiated within education because of its scope. In addition to encouraging effective teaching and learning strategies, documenting student learning, supporting Minnesota residents to seek employment and to advance their careers, eFolio Minnesota allows educational institutions to effectively and efficiently communicate, to demonstrate internal and external accountability to key stakeholders, and to support program and institutional accreditation efforts.
eFolioWorld expands the use of the eFolio software systems to institutions, faculty and students beyond the Minnesota border.
Minnesota State Colleges and Universities funds also were targeted to lay the foundation to serve and support 21st century e-learners. This eFolio initiative, now in its fifth year of operation, has over 70,000 registered users with well over a million hits per month. eFolio software support is provided under a licensing agreement with Avenet, Inc (http://www.avenet.net).
The current Institutional Electronic Portfolio Project is a 2007 & 2008 Minnesota State Colleges and Universities Chancellor’s Initiative. Institutional and program accreditation electronic portfolio site developers are supported through the Academic Innovations unit in the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities, Office of the Chancellor.
